College Academy for Parents (CAP)
College Academy For Parents (CAP) is offered by Early Outreach at the University of Arizona. ERAD conducts the evaluation of this program.
College Academy for Parents serves parents of elementary students in the Sunnyside Unified School District . This initiative is designed to help parents understand current and future academic expectations, improve communication with schools, and increase their involvement in order to prepare students for a college education. The program, offered in Spanish and English, consists of 12 two-hour workshops in Spanish and English and two campus visits.
Purpose and Objectives of the Evaluation
The purpose of this evaluation is to determine the effectiveness of this early outreach program on parents' involvement in students' education.
ERAD works closely with project staff to collect and interpret data; maintain an evaluation database; and to provide reports and ongoing feedback that will help the project staff continuously improve CAP. The objectives of the evaluation are:
- To assess short and intermediate outcomes on parents knowledge and understanding of current and future academic expectations
- to assess long term outcomes on parents involvement in their child's education
