Evaluation of the Make Mealtime Family Time (MMFT) Project

Make Mealtime Family Time is a school-based social marketing campaign that encourages families to eat their meals together. The program is offered by a partnership of Providence Corporation and Community Partnerships of Southern Arizona and numerous schools in the Tucson metropolitian area. The goals of the campaign are to increase the freqency of families eating together and increase positive parent and child interaction; improve parent and child relationship, and ultimately to help defer the onset of risky behaviors (i.e. alcohol, tobacco and other drug use) for youth.

Purpose and Objectives of the Evaluation

The purpose of this evaluation is to determine the effectiveness of a school-based social marketing campaign to encourage family mealtime.

The ERAD evaluation team works closely with project staff, and partnering organizations to develop appropriate survey instruments; interpret data; maintain an evaluation database; and to provide reports and ongoing feedback that will help the project staff and partnering organizations continuously improve MMFT. The objectives of the evaluation are:

  • to assess student and parent needs and to help design and improve programs for students and their families;
  • to assess change in family communication and overall parent-child relationships; and
  • to compare intervention approaches (i.e. focused versus universal)
